SUMMER NEWS LETTER #13
Hi !!
We drove over to Wisconsin and visited Frank and Marge Krall, formerly of 5th St. in Bentsen Grove, at their lovely home on a small lake not listed on the map.
Their's is what I call "a dream home" picture windows on the lake side of a two level house, yard sloping down to the lake - beautiful. We rode around the lake in
their pontoon boat in the afternoon, with them telling us about people who live there, and sights - an eagle nest with small eagles - so nice!! The following day, we all
rode around their area of Wis. seeing sights, etc.
From there we drove to Munising, Michigan. Next morning took the Boat Cruise of three hours on Lake Superior, viewing the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, the most spectacular and colorful rock formations in the entire Great Lakes region. These rocks, some towering 200 feet above the water level, extend for miles along the Lake Superior's pristine shoreline of the Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I took many photographs.
Back on shore, we drove east on Highway 28 to Sault Ste. Marie, then on up, and across the bridge into Ontario, Canada. Next morning we took the one day Agawa Canyon Tour Train. Left at 8 AM, returned at 6 PM. Very scenic trip. On the Bridge crossing from Canada, it took 45 minutes to get across!! While crossing the bridge, we saw a
large cargo ship move through the locks from Lake Superior into the North channel of Lake Huron.
We drove back across the width of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to the Macanaw Bridge which spans 5 miles of open water, with Lake Michigan on the left, and Lake Huron on the right, onto the 'mitt' of Lower Michigan. We ate dinner at Gaylord, and drove on in to Roscommon Friday night.
We enjoyed our trip of 6 days very much.
Ok,,,So I guess I complained to loud and long about not getting to celebrate my summer birthday in the park at our card games.. but it sure paid off....Some one (who did it)?? decided to play a cute trick and I received the benefit...thank you all for the beautiful cards and messages...it really made my birthday !!! I didn't realize until the 3 or 4th card that they were all alike...duhhhhhh....but what a clever idea and I appreciate it so much...I had a wonderful birthday and looking foreword to all the winter birthdays in the park...and maybe I'll even celebrate mine again a time or two with you at one of the card games...hugs to you all...what a wonderful family of bg friends we have...god bless you all

Wilma Mueller-A47, The park had it's usual pot luck today, with lots of good food & fellowship. I think there were about 60 there. It is nice for the residents to get together. Believe it or not there is a lot going on in the summer time. You guys up north think we just mope around waiting for you to get back. Just kidding of course. We really miss all of you.
Gayle Wudarczyk, E23 just got back from vacation & had surgery to remove her gallbladder then had to go back in to remove a stone that was in the common bile duct on its way to the pancreas. she is doing OK. Maybe vacations aren't so good after all..
Al Alexander, W139 came down for a few days to help move the rest of Barb Root's stuff back to Mich. I can't understand why he thought it was HOT here. By the way Barb is pretty lonesome up there, so if you would like to send a card: Sojourner House, 5364 Green Meadow Rd., Room 109, Kalamazoo MI. 49009-1266.
Wanda Green, F8 was moved from the hospital to the nursing home across the street. She needs lots of prayers. Harold spends most of the day with her & that certainly is taking a toll on him. Again a card would be nice.
Wathena Stock, W111 is in the hospital again. After they put the chemo in her abdomen she hasn't been feeling very good. They tried some things that didn't work, so decided a few days there would take care of it. Tom said she was feeling better & would be home in a couple days.
Dottie Milks, F30 & our newsletter person, Barb Goff, A26 are going gambling in a couple of days. Hope they make enough money so we can borrow some. Better yet hope Barb is still able to get the newsletter out.
The summer librarians are going to have their monthly luncheon Thursday. We certainly have a good time when we do. No matter what people do, it's nice to get together.
PLEASE SEND SOME RAIN THIS WAY!
Wilma Mueller, A47 Ron & Donna Ayres, W240 just returned from a months vacation out west. I'm sure they both were anxious to get back to work!! Bill & Pat Craig, W33 were taking a trip to MI & Bill tried to change oil while driving down the highway. After a overnight stay the car was fixed & they continued on. Bill, most people stop to do this.
