SUMMER NEWSLETTER #14

October 6,2008

From Carol and Dennis Ethington The Wisconsin Bentsen Grove get together was held September 10 & 11 at the Marinette Moose Lodge, Marinette, Wisconsin, hosted by Dennis and Carol Ethington.

Wednesday evening a chicken buffet was served at the lodge with 46 in attendance. Various cards were played and several attended a campfire.

Thursday morning we enjoyed a bus tour of Marinette counties waterfalls and lunch at the Peshtgo river resort with 38 in attendance. A few of us braved the rain around the campfire with a weiner and marshmallow roast.

A good time was had by all.

Thanks to all who attended.

Jan and Al Diers, #E-34 Just a few snippets from the "new" kids on the block. We visited your park last March and fell in love with all the wonderful things you have to offer and the warmness of the people there.

So on March 31 we bought a mobile home (#E34) and on April 1 we headed back to Wisconsin.

It has been a very long summer as I am so anxious to make the trip back and make the mobile home our own. I have spent many sleepless nights thinking of 50 million things that I want to do in Texas and 50 million things that have to be done here in Wisconsin before we leave. I have about 3 pages of "Honey Do" lists for my hubby, but haven't had the nerve to give him the lists yet!!

I spent the majority of this summer going to garage sales to find things that I WANT to take down but that we REALLY don't need to survive. Needless to say, my basement is pretty full of "things" that I have to try and pack into a mini-van along with our animals.

Time is finally getting close, the leaves on the trees are turning red and orange, and the temps are not so comfortable anymore so we are planning on heading south the last week of October. We are looking forward to becoming a part of your family and hope you have great tips to share with us on owning a Texas home including how to get rid of cockroaches, snakes, etc.!!!!!! (Something very foreign to us)

See you all in November.

From Betty Danford formerly A 22 Hello Barb: Wondering how you are doing? Thank you for the summer letters. I really do enjoy reading about everyone although, I do not remember some of the names. I do not know how many people remember Carlos Diaz that owned the restaurant that several of the park people used to eat at in Mission. He passed away in California on September 11, 2008. They moved to California after selling the restaurant a few years back. We are doing okay. George still has many doctor appointments so this keeps us busy all summer.  Please send me an email when you find the time.

Nan Persinger @315 - Well, since it's officially "Fall" I don't know how many more of these Newsletters will be going out. Several residents have returned the past couple of weeks and the traffic is beginning to pick up. The Park is busy with the hustle and bustle of new "projects" - we are getting several new concrete lots this year and Ron has stated there will be more added each year (it sure improves the look of things around here!). Also, the putting-chipping green is almost completed. It was an amazing process to watch the day-to-day progress on this green. I think you golfers will be pleased. We haven't had rain for a week or so now (don't know exactly when it last rained), so the grass cutting is slowing down a wee bit, but the weed spraying and cutting continues to be on-going work. Someone told me the other day that I was "obsessed" with gardening and I said, "You're darn right!"

We held our final summer coffee last Tuesday and feasted on Monkey Bread, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Grapes and Strawberries - yum! The consensus was to do this again next summer. I want to personally thank all of those who participated in any way - we all contributed in making it a fun summer at these coffee get-togethers. I was presented with a new mode of transportation - a new broom! It must have cost a fortune because it has a Hemi engine!! I can really fly around the Park now. I'll close for now; each of you have a safe trip back to The Valley.

*************************************************************

From Barb Goff A26 I just learned that Vera Kitterman, who used to live at E38, died last January.

We are also sorrowed by the passing of Hannah Richard A30, a long time resident of Bentsen Grove.

Letters have been pretty thin the past couple of weeks and I think that must mean that you are all very busy either getting your rigs ready for the trip or packing the trunks for the long haul south. At any rate, keep the letters coming until the first of Nov. and have a safe trip here. See ya soon!
