SUMMER NESLETTER #12
SEPTEMBER 2.2008
Roger-Doris Stansberry F32. We are back in the park after being gone for 11 weeks. We want to remind everyone to bring some coats back with them for Tim's Coats. We collect them all year long. We hope to beat last years totals.
While we were gone we visited our nephew and niece in Texas. We visited with Bob & Loraine Howard (prev. B1) and Merle & Susie Leners(512)in Branson, MO. We also saw Sam & Doris Davis (T66), Bill & Betty Schleicher (T65), Duane & Anna Skouby( prev T64), Ginny & Wayne Farr (W128)in Marshall, MO. We then went to the St. Louis area where we visited relatives, Bonnie Newboles (W153), and Jerry & Dottie Nolte (518). From there we went to the Decatur, IL area where we visited with Dale & Jan Riggins (513), Betty & Dean DeVore (W30), and Lil Doddek (C11). We spent the 4th of July with Barb McCallie (A19)and her sister Bettyin Brazil, IN. We then stopped in Ohio to see Roger's brother and family. We also saw Duane & Mary Pool (629).
On the way back we stop in Vicksburg MS and spent about five days there looking around and a few days at the casino there. Then on to Victoria TX for a few days and gas was$3.51 and that was great after paying $3.99 on the trip most of the time we were out. We never hit the $4.00 but sure did come close.
After getting back home we found we have a leak in our roof in our Texas room. So we are trying to get someone to look at it, but all the roofing companies have a big backlog of calls to answer. It is great being back and hope to see all of you soon. We have been having some rain and everything looks so nice and green.
Thanks Barb for all the time you put into the newsletter we all enjoy getting them. Roger and Doris
From Betty Skillings A28 (MN) The MN. Tenth anniversary golf outing" has come and gone. We all had a great time. The casino was good to some and then there were the others that made a donation. The weather cooperated. Tuesday it rained early but by the time we were ready to golf it had quit. Shortly after we started, the sun came out and we had a great day of golf. About 4:p.m. the skies opened up and we had a real downpour, that was fine, we had already moved the dinner inside the club house. Had a very good meal. Wednesday we met at "Fiddlestix golf course", had a nice sunny day to play. That night we all met at the "Grand Northern Grill" at the casino. Everyone ate well again. Some left for home right after golf.. Thursday we were back at "Mille Lacs" to play. It was a little cloudy but nice playing. The sun came out just before we finished playing. Many left for home. Those that stayed met at an Italian resteraunt for supper. Food was good but then it was time to say goodbye to the last of the group. The time goes so fast. We had about 50 people for dinner the first night. 30 + for golf each day. So good to see Dean and Shirley Lesilie [formerly A-55]we had nine states and Canada represented. Thanks to all that came and made it another success. "Lord" willing we'll do it again next Aug. Betty Skillings---A28-----MN
From Christa Dreetz The Dreetz family is fine and finally alone and back to Hamburg. This has been a short and very, very busy summer with us. Being back from our winter stay in Italy we had just 2 weeks in Hamburg to get settled, welcome back Aywa, our new seeing eye dog, when we had to fly to Norway for the confirmation of our oldest grandson Christian. We picked up Christa's mother, left both dogs with the trainer, and flew to Stavanger instead of taking both dogs, my mother and us in the RV. The big celebration and reunion of both: Norwegean and German family was wonderful. Our children had organized everything just great and we enjoyed it very much. However, so sad was our coming home: Quanta, our dog of 11 years, had died. It was such a shock: she was fine till the last moment, the only problem had been her loosing more and more "hearing". The vet found out, that she was full of cancer, but she has not suffered at all. We still miss her very much. The new dog is leading Hako well, but she has too much energy: always running, jumping…..and no appetite…She is skinny like a stick – does not fit into the family!!!!!!! No, she is a super dog, but so different from Quanta.
In May we had another big family reunion with my cousin's. Both Norwegian family came and stayed for 2 weeks with us in Hamburg. In June the summer vacation started in Norway and we had all 5 grandchildren to stay with us for 6 weeks. We took them back to Norway the 1st of August, stayed till the 11th August in Stavanger and are recovering now…..It was a wonderful time with them and we enjoyed it very much. The grand kids ( 6-15 years old) are great fun to talk to, discover Hamburg etc….
However, now it is also nice to be alone and tidy up.
We decided, not to fly to the US for this winter – next year we should use our sky miles for a flight – we just want to take it easy and spend the winter in Sicily. We'll leave the 15th of September and plan on coming back the 15th of April. Let's see, it we stay this long, we always can roll home earlier…..
How are you doing? We will miss you again this winter!
Take care, love and hugs from Christa and Hako
From Bonnie Newboles W153 Barb, I finally made it back to south Texas after 3 1/2 months. First, it was a trip to Vegas, then I drove up to Missouri where 2 of my kids live. The following day I went with my kids to Puerto Rico for a week. We really enjoyed the trip, the best part was probably the rain forest. Then back to St. Charles. Spent time with some of the gals I graduated with, and also with some of the friends that worked at Bell Telephone with me. Had several get together s with family. Went to Arkansas and spent few days with the other son, ate the best catfish I ever ate while I was there. Went to an Auction every Friday night, and as you can guess, the back of my pickup was packed full when I got back here. I am just now getting finding a place to put it all.
Since I been home, I have worked on the schedule for next season. Have several new things in the works. Read the summer newsletter that Brenda is mailing out, I wrote an article in it talking about some of the fun things. The lady that does all my advertising in the Winter Texas Times spent the day with me, we have most of the advertising ready for the first couple months of the new season. And as always, we will start the new season off with our annual Halloween Party. Glad to be back home, see you all soon.

From Nancy Persinger #315 Hi, yu'al! Didn't know if I'd be able to write an article or not; still having some problems with my new modem off and on. Well, it's September 1st and Summer is coming to a close..... at least it felt somewhat like "Fall" this morning; much cooler and foggy - we've had fog the last 2 mornings now. The cicadas can be heard loud and clear and you can find their empty shells everywhere. After Dolly hit I wasn't able to find the 2nd Eastern Screech Owl iin my tree, and I still can only spot oneup in there. However, around 8:40 PM a few nights ago, one of them was perched on my bird bath, getting a drink. I stood and watched for a few minutes when all of a sudden the other one flew down and they hopped into the bird bath and bathed together! I was glad to see them BOTH, even though I was probably invading their privacy - ha! Speaking of hurricanes, hopefully we won't have too many affects from Gustav. We've had lots of rain lately and I've been mowing every 3 to 4 days - sure keeps us yard persons out of trouble (and you thought all we did was have one big party during the summer). Park Maintenance has been busy mowing too, along with the spraying of weeds - who would think that we would be mowing that often! We finally got our big tractor back so they have been removing downed tree stumps and going back and cutting out some limbs in the trees that it is obvious dead. Bonnie is back and busier than a bee - buzzing around here and there!! Ron is back from his vacation, too, but just returned the last couple of days, so won't be officially back to work until tomorrow;I imagine he'll be joining Bonnie and buzzing around the park, too! Will close for now and hope to see some of you soon..... Take care. Nan
