SUMMER
NEWSLETTER 09
JULY
14, 2008
From Barb Goff
A26, I returned from my MN and Omaha trip on July 4th. Had a
wonderful vacation and enjoyed the sites in both places. The
highlight for me in Omaha was the tour of Boy's Town and the Boy's
Town History Museum and Fr. Flanagan's Home. Shirley Kemp, W191,
volunteers at the Home and gives a great tour and commentary. She
really knows her "stuff." We also went to the Zoo, Museum,
and The Mormon Trail plus too many other places to write about.
When I arrived in
Omaha, there was a city wide power outage for 100,000 homes and
businesses from a straight wind storm of up to 120 MPH. Lots of trees
uprooted and branches down. We enjoyed playing cards by candlelight.
Fortunately Shirley's home got power back by 6 the next morning but a
lot of folks didn't get it for a couple of days.
Carl Ryan,(W231,
OK,) had a bad fall down the stairs after he got home this spring.
He suffered a severe concussion along with shoulder injuries. He is
still recuperating from that accident but while x-raying his
injuries, it was discovered that he had asbestos damage to his lungs.
Fortunately the lung biopsies turned up negative. We're all so
happy for the good outcome, Carl, and are looking forward to seeing
you in the fall.
Keep the news
coming. It's always good to hear what family and friends are doing.
Don't
forget about the Herbert's get together – wish I could be there.
Maybe
some of you noticed that there was no Newsletter numbered "07".
That was my goof. Sorry about that.
Have
a good one!
From Pat and
Bill Craig W33, Thanks for taking care of this newsletter. We
all enjoy all the news. We are planning to go to Mich to see my kids
on the 15th of July. A daughter and son live in Kalamazoo and a son
and his son, and a daughter are coming from the west coast. First
time that we all have been together since Dutch died. I'm really
looking forward to this visit. Norma Brackett is going to ride up
there with us and she will visit her family too.
Talked to Marge
Westover and she said that Jerry fell and broke his leg. He's doing
ok, but he's in rehab now. Then she fell and sprained her wrist and
had some bruises. We'll try to see them when we get to Kalamazoo.
We're coming back
to the valley on the 31st. Then on the 13th of Aug.we will fly to
Calgary for Bill' granddaughter's wedding, returning on the 20th
Lucky us, we got a little rain yesterday and today. We are really in
a drought situation. It's still hot but it's hot all over. I guess
that's all for now.

From John and
Barb Riley D1, We enjoy the newsletter to see what other folks
are doing. We are having a good summer also. Lots of rain here in
Missouri like several others. Tough on the farmers to ever get work
done. Still lots of planting needs and getting late for that.
We
came home April 1st. Then on the 12th we left for a Panama Canal
Cruise, for 19 days. It was great. We got home from that on May 2nd
our 49th wedding anniversary. Then on May 14th we left in
our vehicle and drove to Panarama, British Columbia and spent a week.
On the way to and from we spent 8 days in Montana. Then on the way
home we spent a few days in MN fishing with Emmett and Jeanette
Sweezey, and visited with Ken and Marg Waldhauser from D2, and John
and Kay Raskob, all winter Texans from Bentsen Grove. All great
trips. Ken caught and fixed us up a big bunch of
fish. Were they
ever good. Now we are stay at home folks for a while, as Barb had her
right knee total replaced on June 24th. We are back at home and doing
ok. She is having a slow recovery but every day gets better.
We are anxiously
waiting for the winter season at Bentsen Grove again.
From
Tom and Barb Nichols Lot 737, Just wanted to thank you for your
effort in doing the news letter for Bentsen Grove. It sure is nice to
follow the happenings at Bentsen Grove as well as from parts all over
the country. Our summer has been busier than usual in that we have
had Two Grandchildren graduate from High School and a Daughter in law
get her teaching degree. In addition to that, our Daughter and Son
both celebrate their 25th anniversaries. We (Barbara & Tom)
celebrated our 50th anniversary.
We
decided to have the entire family take a cruise for 7 days from
Miami. There were 10 of us total with the 4 grandchildren age 18--21.
We all had a great time including the kids as there were many on
board their ages. It was sure nice being together.
We
are looking forward to returning to the valley in the fall, but will
wait until it cools down some. We will be meeting Barb & Jim
Elliott and Barb & Ron Cramer next week for a camp out here in
Michigan. We meet every year for a few days of camping. Thanks Again,
Tom and Barb MN

From
Bill and Dottie F30, Went to MI for 14 days June 17 – July 1.
Al and Judy Alexander picked us up at the airport. We had lunch with
Jerry and Bev Geddings while we were in Kazoo along with Al and Judy.
We
attended Bill's Grandson Andy's graduation open house. We saw a lot
of old friends there.
We
had a small family get together with Dottie's family. We got to meet
the two newest Great grandsons – Gabriel 6 months old and John, 5
months. They are both adorable.
Aug.
9th we will be flying to Orlando, FL to visit Dottie's
three children and grandkids for 5 days.
Things
are pretty quiet here in the park right now. We do enjoy our Tues.
morning get together for coffee and donuts. There are usually
between 30-40 people attending.
From
June Stocks 654, We received a call concerning the death of Ray
Ford(W15). Ray passed away Friday,July 11th in Iowa. He was very
active in table tennis and the Melody Theater. He will be missed by
all and our thoughts and prayers go with his wife, Betty.
We
also got a call from Pat and Pam Gallagher(A36) in New York. Pat had
hip replacement done a couple weeks ago and is doing great. He has
very little pain and said he wishes he'd done it a year ago.
Thanks
for all your effort in the newsletter, we all appreciate it very
much.
