SUMMER NEWSLETTER 06

JUNE 16, 2008

From Nancy Persinger Formerly Lot 315 Felt I had to respond to Donna regarding her golf cart - just WHO told you I was drag racing??? Thought I had paid everyone off so they wouldn't tell..... Have to tell you Winter Texans about an incident in a home I am taking care of here. IF you left any kind of laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, or something of that nature inside your home for the summer - if someone is taking care of your home here while you are gone, it might be a good idea for them to either remove those items from your HOT home or at least set them inside of a tub, shower, sink, or container. I had an incident where a container of Tide split open and the contents ran all down the side of the washer and dryer, back behind and underneath them, and out onto the floor. Thank goodness I found it in time and got it cleaned up before it had a chance to "bake" onto the floor's finish. Then I was informed by another resident that this had happened to her while taking care of someone else's home; that person now sets those types of items inside something just in case the heat should burst them open. We have been having fun at our weekly coffees; last week we did a memory game - What's for Supper Grandpa (from Hee Haw); some did a good job of remembering, some didn't. We had a visitor that day - Donna Ayers' son was visiting from Florida. I guess he won the contest for remembering the most food items but then we mustn't forget his age!! Today we told embarrassing moments or stories - really had a variety of tales to listen to. I think we could have gone on for several hours with all of the stories. We all wore a variety of hats today in honor of Dorothy Wright's "bad hair days." Seems Dorothy is having a lot of bad hair days lately and covering her hair with a silly hat. She needs a permanent but is waiting to get one closer to the time that her and John will be heading North for a few weeks' we had a good variety of hats - one man even wore a woman's wig - seems he keeps harping on this wanting to be known as "Betty Dale Riggins!" Park Maintenance has been trimming trees and cutting down some dead ones. They still keep on mowing - it's amazing how the grass (weeds?) grow even though we are in drought conditions. Last I saw on the weather channel we are some 3" behind on rain fall. There have been several "nature" sightings around the Park. There is a jack rabbit that has taken up residence on 3rd Street and a pair of night hawks between 5th and 6th Streets. Also a screech owl on 3rd St. We have visits from fox and coyotes at night - think that's only because there aren't so many people in the Park and they feel comfortable in roaming the streets. We have a new puppy in the Park - his name is Boomer! His parents are Cliff and Charlene (6th Street); it's a joy to watch him grow and a joy to finally have a boy among all of these girl dogs. Our days continue to be HOT, but the nights are very nice and breezy. We will keep the "home fires burning "until yu'al return in the fall/winter.

Lila Holmblade (W127) Most of you know that Last November John fell while over in the hangar. He spent 5 weeks in the hospital, recovering from a broken hip. Our daughter came down for a few days just before Christmas, and one of our sons came in January, and was here when John came home . he was a big help- made some minor changes in the house, to accommodate a wheelchair and walker. (John only used the wheel chair twice). He was determined he was going to walk again, and refused all offers to build him a ramp! He had two sessions of physical therapy. The person came here to the house. He was very good, and John did everything he wanted him to do. He has now progressed to the point that he can walk the west side, from our place on Jason Street, to Hampton, and then East to Mark Street, and back home. Every evening we ride our three wheelers on every street on the west side, and he also goes after the mail.

He no longer drives (accident, coupled with poor eyesight). He also had to go on dialysis, partly as a result of the trauma, and partly because his one remaining kidney was not functioning to full capacity ,even before the fall. So, three days a week we make a trip to the dialysis center on South Bryan Rd. We are getting into a routine, working our other stuff around that inconvenience.

I will be having cataract surgery in July, so will be needing transportation for myself, and also for John. If any of you here during July, the 28th and for about a week after that, I sure would appreciate some help. We enjoy reading what all of you are doing,

Hey this is Ken and Nancy Bowen was W104

We went over to see Dave and Betty Pomeroy that was at W220

They are in Auburn In, I thought they looked good but its also sad to say they are both having a hard time getting around

They just don't do much at all but sit and then nap, then doctor visits, and then sit more. So you all can write them or call them.

Check for that info with Donna in the mail room

They are really good people, Keep them in your prayers

Nancy

Jim and Irene Ruble, Lot 639 Jim had to have knee replacement surgery Thursday, June 5th. He was in the hospital until the 8th. Hopefully after he recovers from this, he will be able to do the waltz on Friday nights!!!!

Otherwise, things are going great for us. Spent a week in CO - went out to see our granddaughter graduate from High School.

From Barb Goff A26 Hi, I'm off to MN tomorrow to visit with Betty Skillings A28 and Nancy Schulke (formerly a Winter Texan here.) Then off to Omaha to visit with Shirley Kemp. I'm bringing clothes for "hot and cold." I've been told that's the scenario right now. Can't forget my rain coat.

I'll try to access the Newsletter account from there, but playing around with that account from a friend's computer, I could get the e-mail but not the address book. So, I apologize, but I may or may not be able to send out a Newsletter while I am away. I'll try.

Home on the 4th. Keep the mail coming and I will play "catch up" when I return.
