From Betty DeVore..W-30 I have wonderful news to pass on to all our friends and residents of BG. .No more stumbling around or getting in your face to see who you are...When we got home, Dean got on the phone to call a Cornea Specialist in Champaign that Frieda and Dave Cisna spoke to us about..This man had retired but his nurse told us they referred people to two doctors in Chicago or to Whitson Vision Center in Indianapolis. Last Friday I was examined by Dr Whitson and he said he could help me and told me just what was wrong and just what he would do to help me...When I said I wanted it as soon as possible, they sit it up for yesterday at one of his other clinics in Indy where he has a surgical room..
To shorten the story,..we arrived and after about 1/2 hr wait I went in. I'll tell you the details of surgery later. But with Laser surgery he removed inner lining of cornea which was not right and was causing flaking and corrosion of the basement of the cornea...(my language). He removed all junk in the basement area and medicated and put a contact lens on for me to wear 6 days and PRAISE THE LORD...I CAN SEE...and no more squinting0. so far..They told me there can be some ups and downs as the new lining forms and it will take about 2 months for the healing and back to normal...(me ??).I can't believe that in the past two yrs of Suffering with this that more Ophthalmologists aren't familiar with this procedure because it really is so very miserable to try and battle the light and sun to see what's going on around you. Dr Whitson has been doing this for many yrs and there's no reason for all specialists in eyes not to know about it...I will shout it from the rooftops to let others know if mine is successful....and right now I am fine and enjoying just walking around able to truly see good again....I know many have been praying for me and I thank you very much and still want you to as I go thru this recovery period...GOD IS SO GOOD !!! So many who were also having problems have asked me about this. If you'd like to call, I'd be glad to talk with you about it.We are in the directory...
GOD BLESS YOU ALL TOO.......
Dale & Jan Riggins, #513, Illinois. We are late in going north because Jan had right shoulder replacement surgery on Apr. 29th. Doing rehab at home in Texas. Painful, but necessary for recovery. Will see the Doc again on May 15. Hope we can head north soon. We are planning on a trip to Branson to see our granddaughter perform in Silver Dollar City during July and celebrate our 55th anniversary. Our Family is going to spend a few days together. She is not only performing in Echo Hollow in a country show, but will start performing in Veggie Tales during June and July. She loves to sing and dance and this is her dream.
Have a good summer and stay safe. Luv, Jan n Dale
Harold and Wanda Green F8 Harold had shoulder surgery April 24th and has started therapy as of May7. They (doctors) don't think that he will be playing golf until September if he does as he is told. The park of course is very quiet and it's like having a private pool. We are having some hot days but the evenings are cooler and with a breeze. A group will be going out for Mother's Day at the new Angels just down the road, I think that there will be over 50 of us. Later, Wanda
Nan Persinger, Lot 315 Hi, yu'al! We started our first summer gathering (coffee and donuts) on Tuesday, May 6th, at the Rock Shop. I was "railroaded" into being the activity person, so I, in turn, selected a "partner in crime" - Donna Ayers. There were around 40 people attending and it was rather crowded; it was decided to hold the next coffee at the Main Hall. These gatherings are being held every Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM. Our second event saw attendance at around 40 once again. We held a contest on guessing who's legs/feet belonged to whom - participants were: Ron Ayers, Jim Baldwin, Ray Cancel, Ellis Carruthers, Ron Hamel, Marlin Johnson, Larry Miller, Wilbur Moore, Dale Riggins, Larry Schrader and Bill Worley. (Dale Riggins was the "bonus" guess, so everyone got at least ONE answer right!) I believe some of these men are now plotting what the contest will be next week for some of the females..... Dawn Schrader was the winner - now we know who has been looking at all the men's legs!! Since we don't have an "activity fund" to purchase prizes, we gave Dawn the honor of purchasing donuts for next week's coffee. There is lots of volunteering going on around the park - I won't mention names because I don't want to leave anyone out. However, there is a new sound system installed in the Main Hall and we are all anxious to hear it when the activities start up once again in the fall/winter. There is also some painting going on (AGAIN). And there are plans in the making for our Memorial Day get-together at the Main Hall. Park Maintenance has been busy trimming trees, mowing, spraying, and cleaning out fence rows (and lots of other odd jobs, too). Hope yu'al are enjoying your summer - we are enjoying it here, even though the temps are in the upper 90's. Believe it when someone tells you there is always a breeze at night - makes for wonderful evenings out on the porch. Til next time, take care.
Jack and Dee Fritsch E38, Buffalo NY. Hello to everyone.
The weather is finally getting like spring but everything is in bloom and looking beautiful.
My mom Annette was accepted into Hospice . She hasn't eaten for 5 months but does drink ensure. She is off her medication now but seems to be doing better off it. Very chatty and happy but does not walk very well with assistance. She is very strong and we will see how it goes over the summer whether she returns to Texas in the fall.
I (Dee) am going to have cataracts removed from both eyes. I hope that improves my vision.
Jack is good, other than his back, Playing lots of golf.
My chorus is working very hard for our competition in Hawaii. We will be competing against the best in the world. We compete in November.
Anyone in Melody Theater, be thinking of your music.
That's it for us in beautiful downtown Buffalo.
From John Abbott A 9
I would like to thank our friends and neighbors for their immediate and caring reaction to my fall, knocking myself out, breaking my nose and bleeding a pint of blood onto the carpet. One of the greatest aspects of living in Bentsen Grove is the people's genuine care for one another. I am thankful that Don and Corinne Higbee apparently got here in seconds and helped Carolyn. I have had our mail box full of get well cards and good wishes - people volunteering to run errands for us - Wilma Mueller has been picking up our trash and delivering our mail - and now that my Sis and brother by marriage are home I even have an escort to the doctor tomorrow. (OK she wants to make sure I get there!)
For those of you who don't know what happened Thursday night (6;30-ish). Carolyn had gone over to open up the Philbrook's home, turn on the air and deliver 3 weeks of mail. When she returned she found me laying on the floor - out cold and in a pool of blood. It took awhile but it finally came back one little piece at a time. I had a lap quilt that had slid down to my ankles. I had lost track of the fact that it was there and when I went to get up - I planted my cane on the quilt between my feet securely nailing it down. Then rocking up out of the chair I discovered my feet were a problem just before I hit the carpet. I still don't remember the impact but I can tell from my loose teeth, rug burned nose, sore jaw and general ugly appearance that I made contact face first.
If they ever have another amateur night for rug diving I think I'll just watch! I came in second in my first attempt (the floor clearly won).
Ron & Donna Holland, Eddington, ME (B37) We left BG on April 29th and took our time getting to Plattsburgh, NY to see our daughter and grandchildren. We arrived there May 3rd and stayed until the 12th. We had really good weather traveling and had a great visit. Isn't it amazing how much the Grandchildren grow while we are away for the winter! It is colder than Mission but not to bad. WE are home in Maine now and have spent the week getting settled. Ron has started to prep his garden and I have got my Stained Glass equipment ready to start projects. WE are both practicing pool to stay in shape. Hope all is going well and we look forward to hearing what everyone is doing this summer. If anyone is in Maine this summer, call us we would love to see you. Donna
From Kathy and David Whittier, site 231, from Hebron Maine:
We had a good trip home, leaving BG April 2 and traveling the 2,200 miles in a leisurely 4 weeks, since we didn't want to arrive in Maine before all the snow had gone. We stayed a few days in Lake Corpus Christi State Park and enjoyed the sights in and around Corpus Christi. Then we moved up the Texas coast and spent 3 days in Crystal Beach, TX. After that we spent a few days around Baton Rouge exploring the Civil War battle sites. Then we headed to FL, GA, NC, VA to visit family and friends. We then spent 6 days touring the wonderful Civil War sites at Gettysburg. The new visitors' center and museum is wonderful. After a visit to my mom in NJ, we arrived home May 1. Now we are settled for the summer in an RV and Golf Resort in our hometown in Maine, since we have rented our house here. We are near family, friends and part-time work and quite comfortable in our "new" 34' Montana fifth wheel.
From Wilma Mueller A47 - Just an update on Jackie. Her last test results showed her cancer in more places in the bone & also in the liver. She had planned on going to Houston if this happened, but her doctor said he had been in touch with Houston & they would do as he is doing. Jackie decided to take her treatments here. They started chemo last Friday & she will take it every 3 or 4 weeks depending on how she reacts. This is a very aggressive form & will be really hard on her. I know she would appreciate a card as her spirits aren't very good. Jackie Huddleston, 713 E. 11th St, Mission, TX 78572.Please keep her in your prayers. I will keep you updated as time goes on.
From Dawn Schrader For those of you who are hanging out here at BG this summer, Ginger and Dave have a couple trips planned to Eagle Pass. She has 2 confirmed trips for June 14 & 15 and June 28 & 29. If you're interested, you will need to call her @ 956-581-6973. This is the number to her shop, Scented Rocks by Ginger, which opens at 11:00 a.m. She also said she has reserved a bus for July 25th. this isn't confirmed yet.
