SUMMER NEWS LETTER #12

SENT AUGUST 23, 2007

From Alan and Sharon Holman (B42, IO): Hi from NW Iowa. We have been enjoying the summer. Hot and pretty dry, but have received some rain the past week. Haven't seen any Bentsen Grove people except Nick and Jennie Vos. Allan and I both took "part time" jobs. It keeps him busy and me out of the shops. There seems to be a lot of people around enjoying the lake and all of the activities. Right now we have the Okoboji Bible Conference going on with several states represented. Also a motorcycle rally to get revved up for Sturgis was last weekend. There are crowds at the Summer Theatre put on by Stephens College in Missouri. We will be glad to get back to Mission and just sit on the deck!! If anybody gets as far as Arnolds Park, come and see us. Alan and Sharon

Ed and Doris Wofford (E-60 ): We are back in good 'ole BG again. We weren't gone very long this time, but it was still good to be back. We plan, pending our health, making a longer trip next summer. Also, might have to make a loan for gas money. By the way, gas prices have dropped since we got home. Most of it is from $2.40 to $2.44. Didn't get any like that while we were gone. There will be some significant changes in the auction this year. I will advertise it in plenty of time. Hope everyone is doing well, and looking forward seeing you this fall. Ed and Doris

From Doris Hott (D16, MI):I have been busy keeping up with the world. My sister-in-law celebrated her 90th birthday last week. Her six children had a party for her on Burt Lake in Mi. at her son's summer home. The 'kids' live in Col. Al. Wi. and Mi. It was a great fun day seeing them after so many years. But I was able to recognize them all. Cousins were delighted to reminisce, food was great, music and a dance floor was there too. She danced with several partners and is alert and very agile. Weather was perfect. Now some not so good news. Floyd Liskum passed away last Thur. He had spent 30 Winters at BG. He was one of the first campers there. Andy Thomas has CA of the liver. They are at Eastport Mi.. Our weather here has cooled down some and is great for sleeping. Days have been in the high70s and low 80s. We had our first rain in 6 weeks last Sunday, 2 inches. But the farmers need more for the feed for their cattle this Winter. I put my house on the market but no lookers yet. Hope to see you all in the Fall. Doris Hott

From Nancy Schulke (former apts or W102) MN This is news about some of the Michigan people I visited in Aug. I drove to Flint and stayed with Arnold and Marion Wilson (Apt 210) for 6 days. They took me to Frankenmuth to visit the German town and see the sights. Found some Christmas things at Bronner's. The town was so clean and the flowers all over just lent to the charm of it all. Shopping was great and got a wall hanging and a glass paperweight. Meet with Pat Eaton (440) for dinner and later played Hand and Foot cards with all. Toured the town and saw were some of the car factories were and now empty or gone. Went to the Sloan museum to see some history of Flint. Then drove to Holland to visit with Hope Jones (A25). Hope had drinks and lunch ready for us, later after grabbing we were off to see the town and stop at the rehab for a short visit with her Son. Hope is planning on going to Texas this coming winter. She is seeing a Cancer maintenance Doctor and thinks she will do 3 to 6 months in Texas, will know more later this month. Marion and I spend some free time playing cribbage and the last day we tired. Then off to Pat Eaton to help set up and cashier at her street's garage sale. Things were slow and the rain one afternoon did not help. The day of my birthday we meet with the Wilson's and had ribs at Mr. Brown's. Pat later had a problem with her toe, so I stayed to help with the ice packs and remind her not to walk much and to rest with her foot elevated. This This trip was good for my new car and got 22 MPG on the highway. I was glad to fine all these people happy and well and all looking forward to their time going back to the Park this fall.
