SENT AUGUST 9, 2007

From Barb Goff A26: Talked with Pat Eaton last night (Lot 440, MI) and she says that she is feeling good and plans to be back in the valley in the fall. She wanted me to pass along the info that Margaret Harding, wife of Dallas Harding, (4 th Street) passed away July 28th. Cards may be sent to Dallas at 6699 S County Rd. 350W, Clayton, IN 46118.

In today's Monitor there was an article stating that the horse raceing track for McAllen has been approved and will be built on S10th and Dickey Street. Ready for use in 2009. So many things happening here that it is almost impossible to keep track of them.

From Dean Bowman (212 ): Well we're well into our trip to Alaska. We met up with the Heaberlins #210 in Des Moines, Iowa on the 13th of June and have been traveling ever since. We have had a wonderful trip. Some good roads and some not so good. But Don and I had been there once before so that is what we expected. A little different for Barb and Larry. But they have been doing fine. We have seen a lot of beautiful, breath taking scenery. We've been to the top of the world highway, a once in a lifetime, never again adventure. The road was all washboarded and dusty and everything we own had a very thick covering of dust and mud. I mean inside and out! But we had a wonderful time in Anchorage, on to Homer and then to Valdez. There we caught the salmon fishing just right and had a very good time. We took the Stan Stephen water cruise one day and saw a lot of glaciers and lots of humpback whales, sea lions, seals. Then Don and I went halibut fishing on a charter and guess what of the 6 fishermen on the boat I was the only female, and guess what again, I caught the biggest halibut of the day! 60.3 lbs. Man did I carry those guies high. Anyway we have all our freezer space full of fish, between that and the salmon. We just today finished our time in Skagway. If you make it to Alaska you don't want to miss that. A really unique little gold rush town, and now a stop off for the cruise ships. Today when we left there, there were 3 cruise ships in the harbor. In all we were told there are 27 jewelry stores! So if you've got the money they've got the jewels. But it does take lots of money. We didn't come away with much jewelry. We will be starting South now and plan on taking the West coast trip the rest of the way. Still have some stuff to see in Canada on the way. Fuel hasn't really been too bad only in Canada. We try to be on a full tank before we enter there. Well I know we will be seeing you all again in November if not before, We really enjoy our Winters there. We haven't heard too much about Bonnie, is she doing okay? Keep those letters coming. We don't know some of you but enjoy hearing anyway............Deane Bowman

From John Riley (D1 MO):We are having a great summer here in Missouri. We have been to Branson a couple of times.( we are only about a 6 hour drive ).......camped for about a month at Mozingo Lake and camp ground about 10 miles from us. This is a great time for us as we have a couple of daughters and their families (and friends) with campers that camp there also. They can go about their jobs in the day and have fun in the evening! WOW those cook outs. At one count we had 9 camping units in our group........so you know what a pot luck you can have!!! We have a lot of travel plans going on and will not be home much.....but we will be back in BG the first of Jan. We do miss BG ! ! ! We could really use some of that rain!!! Our lawn in BROWN ! Not much of that wet stuff here!

From Bonnie Paskey W112. We have stayed home for most of the summer after taking the long way home from Texas through Arizona, Las Vegas, and Utah. We visited Ken's younger brother who has pancreatic cancer and is still battling it. We have been spending time with our grandchildren and taking short trips in our RV here in Wisconsin. We are expecting another grandchild in December so have not decided for sure how that will affect our plans for coming to BG. A group of BG residents recently had a get together in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Attending were Bernie and Carol Milkie W24, Richard and Janet Ott T26, Ken and Bonnie Paskey W112, Clem and Sharon Bergstrom B17, and Glen and Shirley Edlund W58. We all had a good time playing cards, eating lots of good food including pasties which the UP is know for, and visiting. We traveled to Ishpeming to visit the Yooper's Tourist Trap, drove around Marquette, and visited a casino for a brief time. We watched a very good water ski show presented by a local club. We also viewed the Kitchen Band performance from last spring and lots of laughs.

From Bill and Pat Craig (W33): We have had a couple of short trips this summer. One to Michigan and we just got back from Calgary last night. Other than going from one Doctor after another, it's been a very quiet summer. Hoping to see everyone back in the Valley soon. Pat and Bill Craig W-33

From Roger and Doris Stansberry (F32): We are still on the road and made a stop at Dale & Jan Riggins 513. We had a great time there. They took us to Rockhome Garden, Allenton Park and the Railroad Museum. When we were at the museum they had "The Engine That Could". It was really cute with a picture on the engine. It sure was a fun time and of course the fudge and cookies were always good as Dale makes them often. Then we head to see Ruth Walker F34. She is doing fine after Bill's death. She is going out with her children and her neighbors. We all went out for dinner to a Amish restaurant. Then the next day we headed to Barb Mc Callie's home in Brazil IN. We also seen her sister and brother in law Betty and Cecil Green. They went on a cruise with us a few years back. We had a great time there also and Barb showed us a fountain that is in front of their park that was sent over from Brazil. Now we are heading back to BG and right now we are in Sikeston MO and made a trip to Lambert's Cafe the home of the famous throwed rolls.

Thanks Barb for keeping us all informed on things in the area and the many friends of BG. See you soon.

From Duane and Mary Pool (629): Just wanted to let you know that we have changed addresses. I have sent the change to some of you but have forgotten just exactly who, so I am going to sent it to everyone on my list. The new address is greenbriar7@att.net.

Hope you are all well. We are not too bad for a couple Sr. Citizens. Hope to be able to return to Texas this winter.

The weather here has been very hot and dry. What few rains we have had have been very spotty. They seem to miss us. All for now.

Duane and Mary Pool

From Rosemary Stover(W171)MI: The biggest news in our Port Huron area is the opening of Golden Coral which opened just over a week ago & doing great. Weather here continues to be Hot & Dry, not use to high 90 +. Gas has dropped to around $2.82 a gal.; has been some of the highest in the country. Rosemary Stover

From Wilma Mueller, A47 - I'm usually envious of you guys up north & your weather, but from what I hear it's hot up there also. We expect it to be hot here in the summer, but it seems like it's worse every year. We have had lots of rain & things are really green. Lots of flooding around, we are lucky we are on pretty high ground. According to the Monitor this morning a new Cracker Barrel is going to open near the new Convention Center. They didn't set a date, but from the speed things are being built along the Expressway, it shouldn't be long. They said it only takes 20 weeks to build one. It's unbelievable how many buildings are going up. Bill Hermann, 745, went to the hospital for dehydration & maybe an infection. He is now in Rehab for a while. Betty Hamel, A16, had back surgery & is home now doing pretty good. Joan Duncan, A31, sold her place & is now in Mich close to her kids. William Averitt, D18, passed away, no details. I just heard Jack & Zola Mae Reynolds,D4, are here for a few days. They just wondered how it was here in the summer. The son of Tom & Wathena Stock, W111, had a brick wall fall on him & has many broken bones & other injuries. I want to thank Barb again for doing the newsletter. She really needs news. Let's help her out. Everyone take care
