SUMMER NEWS LETTER #09
SENT 07-04-07
From Barb Goff (A26): Happy Fourth of July. We are busy getting ready for the Park's Annual 4th Pot Luck. Hmm, I can smell all of the good foods cooking.
The Valley has had a lot of rain the past few days and the lower valley was under a tornado watch this afternoon. Rio Grande City has been inundated and the town people evacuated to higher grounds. Levees have broken and added to the misery. There is flooding as far north as Falfurias. Localy, the roof is collapsing on the Edelstein building on Conway from the weight of the water on the roof. But the Park, thankfully hasn't had any damage that I am aware of. We are expecting scattered storms through Friday.
I spoke with Pat Eaton (Lot 440, MI) at her home in MI and she is feeling much better and has the doctor's clearance to come on back to the valley in the fall. I know that a lot of folks missed her sunny smile last season and will be glad to see her when she returns. Five of the BG Gals celebrated Father's Day by going to Tony Roma's for ribs. They had a good outing.
Because I only had three short letters for the News Letter last week, I didn't send it out. Of course they are included in this week's letters. The paper will only be as interesting as you all make it. So don't be shy and let us know what's happening in your world. Barb

From Lenore Snapp (formerly W 228) I am sitting up here in my new apt. seven stories up. I like it. I can look out and see so far and at night the lights are so pretty. We have a good time here. We have lots of get togethers. This week was strawberry short cake and it was great. We had all we could eat and it was carried up to some of the people who couldn't come down. A person could get a little bit spoiled here with our nice door man serving us pop corn and coffee every afternoon.
Our trash is picked up in the hall from a trap door in the kitchen. We can always go out on the balcony for fresh air. My daughter Kim comes over quite often and we go for a walk after hanging a few more pictures on the wall.
The nurse came the other day and after oxygen and BP check she told me I would live forever. I am not sure that I could afford to live here forever. Lenore Snapp 1400 N Woodlawn 7-C Wichita,Ks. 67208
I miss BG.

From Doris and Roger Stansberry (F32 ): We left BG the eleventh of May for our summer trip. This year we have Doris's mother, Helen Pearson (W216), with us. We stopped in San Antonio to see her great grand daughter and her parents. Then stopped in Houston to see her grand daughter. We stayed in Hot Springs Village AR for two weeks to put her house there up for sale. We then went to Branson, MO for three weeks. While we were there we visited with Bob and Lorraine Howard (formerly B1). Lorraine had her hip replaced Thursday, June 21. She is doing fine. Also while in Branson, Helen fell and cracked her Pelvic bone. She had to spend four days in the hospital. They said that she will need to use a walker for a minimum 4 weeks. We are now in Sweet Springs MO visiting with Sam and Doris Davis (T67) for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the newsletters, we appreciate them. Doris and Roger Stansberry

From Bruschi's (B 36) Hello everyone at B G. So far we have had a nice spring & summer, keeping busy with family, and getting to know our great-grandson, who just turned 1 year old.
We will be celebrating our 55th. Anniversary this Thur., and we just got back from spending 3 days at Wisconsin Dells, celebrating. Had fun on both the Upper and Lower Dells boat rides, seeing all the beautiful rock formations and other scenery. Also took in the Tommy Bartlett water show and the Circus Museum at Baraboo. Plus played mini golf , etc. Tomorrow (Wed) we will be going to see the House on the Rock. Hear it's very nice.
We're looking forward to our return to the Park in late Oct. Sounds like we have a lot of new businesses to checkout.
Our regards to all.
Dick & Dolores (B 36)

From John Hollingshead (W69,WI): Attention bowlers - I've been told by a couple of the summer residents that the Valley Bowl has been give a complete "Face Lift". The old wooden lanes have been replaced with the new type synthetics. The pin setters have been rebuilt. The carpeting has been cleaned and there are new chairs for the tables. Dave Miller, the manager for the past few years, is no longer there, but no new manager has been named as yet. Dawn Miller wrote me that the first time she bowled on the new lanes she had a 500 series. Anyway, any improvements to the old conditions will be sincerely welcomed. Personally, I'm looking forward to bowling on the new lanes this coming season.

From Jacalyn Buechly (W-5) OHIO Hello to everyone at Benstsen Grove and to all who are scattered to the four winds. All here in Ohio is going well, enjoying our daughter Sheryl and her family here in Batavia. We're still keeping busy with day trips to various small towns around Ohio and Kentucky, usually those with an historical significance. As the saying goes, we're never too old to learn something new, and with me being a history buff, I will never get enough of learning more about the areas we visit. We had a wonderful 3 day week-end trip to Lake Cumberland, Kentucky two weeks ago. What a beautiful state, so many rolling hills and nature abounds all around. We stayed in a privately owned home in a gated community of vacation homes high on a hill and miles from town. Just us, nature and a tributary of Lake Cumberland out back of the home with fantastic picture windows all across the back of the house with the most spectacular view. Wow, punish me some more! We have many more fun trips planned, among them will be to the Hocking Hills area of Ohio, south-east of Columbus. We'll be staying at a resort while there and enjoying the good life of gourmet dining and 5-star lodging. Sheryl sure is a believer in only the best. Gee, wonder where she got that from? Anyway, will report again when I have something exciting to tell you all about. Until then, everyone be safe and have a wonderful summer wherever you may be spending it. Jackie

From Wilma Mueller, A47.- Well, we finally had some rain, about 2 -3". Rio Grande City had 7 - 10". Lots of flooding. Bill & Pat Craig, W33 just got back from a trip to Michigan. Barb Stiver, A50 returned from a trip to Indiana. They had a memorial for Stan. The sad news is Andy Adams, W110 passed away July 1st. I don't think there will be a memorial as Andy didn't want that. I understand Dolores is leaving also. Her children are here now. Our prayers go out to the family. The papers here are talking about a new flood plan & are wanting people to sign up for flood insurance. We are lucky we are in a high spot & shouldn't really have to worry a lot. They talk about 7 Oaks, but they are a lot lower. The construction is going strong along the Expressway. Brenda (office) is on vacation this week. She went to see her son & daughter. Needless to say she deserves it. Letty is holding down the fort. Take care
