From Len McNeice (formerly E 21);A follow up on our Kansas visit to Martha Roniger-.

We had visited Martha 2 years and while there drove the 80 miles to Wichita to visit Helen Redman  formerly A Street.

So this year we did it again and spent several happy hours with Helen who is a healthy 90 years of age.

Martha, Mary and I drove the next day to Hillsboro Kansas- 50 miles away to eat at a new Mexican restaurant, where their specialty is Fried Ice Cream. We have really missed Mexican food, and so enjoyed that meal a lot. I took photos to show our kids the shocked expression on Mary's face when the waiter put down 2 full plates in front of her.

Mary my faithful editor reminded me that I was to inform you that Hazel Loughridge formerly D-33 died 2 weeks ago in her 90th year

From Evie Spellman (Lot A17  )Thought maybe some would remember Bob and Rosie Stearns who lived on "A" street where Paul and Marlene Kranz now live.... Bob had passed away a few years ago and Rosie is now with him. She died Monday evening, June 4th...

From Alice Przybylski (#D3,WI)..A bad storm went thru Central Wisconsin this afternoon about 4:00 pm. We sat in the basement for a while as the siren was blowing a Tornado Warning. It struck North East of us.  We had high winds and lots of hail ! You should see my rhubarb plants ! The leaves are shredded and some of my flowers are also damaged and snapped of. It could have been a lot worse!. People north of us lost their house and one farm had their barn damaged, and all their cows were loose and neighbors showed up to help round them up.

The hail came down three different times and when I came up from the basement, there was ice under the shrubs. It sounded awful. There are leaves and pinecones all over the lawn and the street,....due to the hail.

I will be camping with my  Good Sam Camping Club next week . I am Wagonmaster for the month of June.

Some of our members stay at Kountry Corral in TX during the winter and we meet for breakfast on Tuesday mornings.

My daughter, Tamie put her resume' in at the University here. She hasn't heard anything yet. She had worked for our local hospital for 26 years  when they decided to eliminate her job!  It was quite a shock !

From Arlie & Donna Heisterberg,(Lot 311)  Hello to all our BG friends! Thanks Barbara for the news letters, we enjoy them soooo much. Our trip home was fine, we always go home faster than when we come south. Arlie has been busy with yard work and finishing up the house that we moved into and just left with all boxes stacked in the house when we came to BG. We have unpacked some and moved the rest to the basement, so the upstairs looks pretty good.

I attended the International Red Hat Society Convention in Nashville at Opryland Hotel, that was awesome 4000 redhatters from all over the world were present, 2 ladies from Holland came over and presented Sue Ellen Cooper with a beautiful bouquet of red tulips. Holland tulip growers developed these new red tulips and named them red hat tulips. I met many new friends from Canada and United Kingdom and Australia, besides USA ladies of course!

4 weeks ago I had my left rotator cuff repaired, the surgeon had to remove part of my acromium bone and repair a complete tear of all 4 muscles, also cleaned up any arthritis spurs and stuff. I am now doing physical therapy, guess it takes a long time to use it again, I am doing pretty good, at least Arlie doesn't have to dress me any more. HA! and I can drive one handed, look out!

I talked with Jo and Bob Harry lot 313 and they are doing well. Also talk weekly with George and Janet Walen lot B10 They just camped last week with several of the Mattoon bunch and Mike and Dottie Kirts lot 220 from Indiana.

I hate to wish the summer away, but can hardly wait to return to BG!

See ya soon! Donna

From Jacalyn Buechly, Lot W-5 (OHIO) - I arrived in Batavia, Ohio on May 30th and am staying with our daughter, Sheryl, her husband David and the loves of my life, two of our grandchildren, Anthony, 6 and Sabrina, 4. The kids' home is located in the country, back a long lane and surrounded by the beauty of nature. We're about 20 miles north and east of the Ohio River and Kentucky in the rolling hills of Ohio with Cincinnati and all the goings on of a big city just minutes away. We've been busy with day trips, hiking, swimming, etc. and have so many more trips planned. Next week should find us in KY visiting historic towns and visiting a horse farm, with Williamsburg, Virginia a soon to be trip for several days coming up in early July. So much planned, so little time, but we'll get it all done. Miss my husband and friends at Bentsen Grove, but fortunately, the grandchildren keep me hopping so I don't get much time to dwell on those I'm missing. Summer will fly by, and of course I have my cell phone and laptop to keep in touch with those near and dear. Will write later with more of our adventures. Hello everyone  from BG!

From Wilma Mueller,(Lot  A47) "MOTHER GIVES BIRTH TO TWO AT BENTSEN GROVE." You guys up north think we don't have any excitement here at Bentsen Grove in the summer. Actually a bird made her nest in the rocks on the ground at C37. Can't believe all the animals that roam around didn't destroy it. I heard it was some kind of a Hawk. It  doesn't even try to fly away when you go by. The annex is still being worked on . Looks like it is in the final stages. Bill Worley, F30 had a 3-way by -pass on Wednesday. Hear he is getting along OK. On a sad note, Rosie Stearns(formally at A5) passed away. Her daughter said now they can finally dance together again. I heard from Gord & Edith's Durward's daughter & they will be celebrating  their 65th anniversary this month. They lived on 603. Edith taught quilling & they were chairpersons of bid euchre for a long time. I said Ray Ford was having surgery - well later I heard the doctor decided the best thing was just chemo. Sorry!!  Take care of yourself

From Nancy Bowen (Lot W104): Hay all,  it's the Bowen's at W104: We had my mom with us this winter, roughing it on our couch for the winter. Then we bought W220 for her that's Pomeroy's place. Any way, we all left here in our truck to head to Zephyrhills, FL to mom's house. We put it on the market and moved her into W220. We just got in Sun. June 3'.  We were blessed - we had a good trip, good weather and no problems.

Now for the job of putting all of her stuff away.

I wish to thank Betty and Ron for writing to us and a special thanks to Ron for making my cornices for the windows

Oh ya, we got the best neighbors around- Pat& Russ , Bob & Doris , and oh ya, we got an addition to Cheryl St, Donna is her name on the corner lot across from Bob & Doris.

And what is the latest on Jennie ( who plays piano during pancake dinner?

From Betty Skillings (A 28, MN) Reservations are made at the casino for those that want to come to the Minnesota golf outing Aug.13-15. We also have tee times at both Mille Lacs golf resort and Fiddlestix golf. The only raise in price on those three: Fiddlestix raised their price $1. Haven't made any eating arrangements yet but will do that soon.

Our gas prices are back down below $3:00. Hope they go down some more by Aug.

Drove down to see Arlette in Elk River nursing home yesterday.  They keep her somewhat free of pain. She was alert enough to know us and talked a little. She said "you guys talk and I'll listen" She put in her two cents worth once in a while but mostly listened. She told me "she sure wished she had a slice of my home made bread" Lil and Lucy (121)are with her every day. Keep them all in your prayers.
