SUMMER NEWS LETTER #6

SENT 06-06-07

From Barb Goff (Lot A26):  Just spoke with Hope. She is still at her granddaughter's home and will be there for a while longer so you can continue sending well wishes to that address.   She sounded very upbeat and said that she is feeling much better.  She is driving now and gets around with the help of one of those walkers with a seat.   Gets out once in a while to play Bunco.  Gregg continues with problems of a carpel tunnel nature., besides his leg problems.   We need to keep them both in our prayers.

Andy Adams is in the hospital again, will have his first chemo tomorrow. They removed a large amount of fluid from his lungs again yesterday.

From Peggy Philbrook, (707 Res)  I would like to share the spotlight with those who did the most, actually, for the Memorial Day Gathering.  Primarily to Bonnie (W153), who designed the day,  Bob and Gen Bobzein (W233) who led the Salute to the Flag and singing of "God Bless America."  John Abbott (A9) asked for the Blessings and he and Gordon Philbrook (707) led the games.  But most kudos go to those who joined in the honoring of our Military and the remembrance of what this day truly means, who brought the food, and who heartily joined in the games.  It was a wonderful time

From Peggy Philbrook, (707 Res) I am so embarrassed!  I completely misunderstood what I had been told about the library air-conditioning.  Feeling much better, and guilty because so few have been doing so much in there, I went over to the library to work.  Well, it was 85 degrees, no lights, no roof, no air-conditioning but lots of mice droppings.  I checked with Brenda, who said no-one was supposed to be in there until all the work on the air-conditioning was done!  Which is supposed to be the middle of next week (how many remember the "Coming Soon" restaurant on Hwy 83.).  So - lots of help will be needed to get things back in shape once it is finished.  I'll whine again to you when that happens.

From Len and Mary Mc Neice (formerly E 21) Mary and I visited Hope Jones Sunday May 27th on our way to Kansas.   Hope looks good, and we had a good visit even if it was short. We had intended staying in Holland overnight, but we got there so early, that we knew it made sense to put on a lot more miles before stopping for the night.

Hope of course is staying at her granddaughter Amber's home. It is a nice place and Mary and I weer envious of their home.

We did not meet Gregg because of our rapid departure, but I talked to him on the phone and I was amazed at how "up" he sounds considering what he has gone through.

From Len and Mary Mc Neice (formerly E 21)  Mary and I have been at Martha Roniger's for 2 days now, and she is tiring us out.

making us climb a big hill to see their ponds where the family goes fishing and kayaking.

Martha looks good and acts  like a much younger woman than her ...... years

The trip here was surprisingly lacking in heavy traffic, I guess because it was the Memorial Day weekend.

The state police in each state were busy handing out tickets and I suppose that is why we got such good mileage- I was keeping within the speed limits

Mary had a serious problem yesterday- she lost a knitting needle that she needed to knit me a pair of socks. Aren't we lucky if that is the only problem we have

 Love to y'all.

From Alice Przybylski,(WI # D3) I was out at the new land that my

daughter Lori and Grandson Ryan have bought. They decided to move their two 80' Mobile Homes out on it. It was a hot  day standing out there watching the movers  pull them down the highway and around the corners, up the long gravel driveway thru the trees towards the land. They had to throw down ramps and logs on the corner to jockey it over the ditch to make the corner. It reminded me of the crowds that would   gather last winter when they pulled a big unit into Bentsen Grove ! Once you start to watch, you hate to leave until it's done !

There was a young guy out there that could operate the BIG Cat by remote control and drive his truck at the some time that he was maneuvering the Mobile Homes. It was fascinating to watch ! He made it pull and push the Mobile Homes from inside his truck! The Cat threw up dirt, twisted and turned, almost standing on end as it worked. At one point it dug itself down in a low spot and he had to work it out of the hole, by his remote. They broke three axels at $75.00 each!

At one point there was a Big Black Semi truck on the land, a Ford truck pulling a trailer full of cement blocks, a Trailblazer pulling a trailer, the Big Cat and my daughters car, all at the end of the driveway. And they all had room enough to turn around ! They had to drill down 250' to hit water. They hit Blue Rock which is hard to drill thru. I brought some of it home for my flower garden. My Grandson said, "take it all !" I have friends in construction in NC, and they said they have to drill deeper to hit water now too, as the water table on Earth is receding.  Friends of ours cooked supper, so we had a tailgate supper at the site ! My daughter,   Tamie took lots of pictures to download on the Computer.

I read Val and Jan's blog. It will inspire all who read it !! I will keep Hope and Arlette on my prayer list, and hope my BG friends have a great summer season,... Alice

Hi, from Ron & Donna Holland(B-37, Maine  ) Ron and I had an unusual trip home from BG this spring.  He flew his Cessna 172 from Devine, TX. and I followed each day by car all the way to Eddington, Maine.  We left BG April 11th and stayed in Devine, TX   which is 40 miles southwest of San Antonio for three days.  Took our time going across country because Maine was having very bad weather at that time.  We stayed in Tunica, Ms; Bowling green, KY, then another 3 days in Parkersburg, WV.  Parkersburg was a good place to stay, the Fenton glass factory is there so I toured that and also I toured the Middleton Doll Factory (where dolls are born).  Parkersburg is also the home town of Jim Province (W-82) and we saw the house his dad built.  From Parkersburg we made it to Endicott, NY and we finally made it to my daughter's home outside Plattsburgh, NY on April 21st.  I stayed there for a week but Ron flew home to Eddington the next day.  Since coming home in early May we have been putting the house in order and reclaiming the yard from 7 months of neglect. We hope everyone is having a good spring, we are looking for some summer weather soon. Right now it is a little to cloudy in Maine. We miss everyone at BG.  As we are part of the "Donut crew" one of our goals for the summer is to see if we can improve on the donuts we make, time will tell!  Keep the news coming, I agree with others that have written, I enjoy hearing what everyone is doing.   Donna

From TK  and Pat Clemens,(Lot C42 IL) The newsletter is such a neat idea.  I love to read everything people write even if I don't know them, I hope to eventually.  This coming 2007 fall year will be our 4th year in Bentsen Grove and I just truly love it.  The people are so friendly and there is so much to do.  Please add  us to your list.  Thanks, TK

From Wilma Mueller,( A47):   Well, just to let you folks up north enjoy your weather a little more it gets closer to 100 every day. Looks like summer is here to stay. Dale & Luella Powers, A15 finally got home after staying at their son's for about 2 months. Luella had colon surgery while there. Guess now they decided it was time to move back closer to their kids. Their place is for sale & believe they will go back to Port Huron, MI. It's always sad to see someone move that's been here so long. Last I heard they plan to go sometime the first of the month. Mary Hicks, B48, spent a few days in the hospital, but is back playing cards. Ray Ford, W145, was supposed to have surgery May 31st. He has cancer of the esophagus & stomach. Andy Adams, W110, went to the doctor Tuesday for his first chemo treatment, & they sent him directly to the hospital. He had a lot of fluid on his lungs. They begin his treatment the next day & had to quit as he had to much pressure on his chest. He finally got it on Thursday. I talked to Dolores today & if they can get some oxygen then he will get to come home today (Saturday). Our prayers goes out to everyone who is ill. The annex is really cool as well as the library. Letty (in the office) is taking a vacation this next week. Things are pretty slow right now. At least not like in the winter. Jackie & Paul got back from their trip & nice as it was Jackie said it was enough for a while.  Jackie Buechly,W5, is taking a vacation, so now is the time to get Harold to work on your computer. Don't want him to get lonesome!! I talked to Don & Carla Badgley, W237, & I asked them what they were doing & Don said they were working on their beach house!!!!!! Whatever did they mean???? Pat & Russ Ingram, W107, returned from a month's trip. Had a great time, but certainly glad to get back. Jan Barron, W96 who has been in Houston with Val for such a long time said if things go well they might be able to get back here sometime this month. Val has had such a tough time. Take care of yourselves. Again I want to thank Barbara for doing the newsletter.

From Don and Ruth King (formerly D41) Ontario, Canada: We would like to say "good-by" to all our friends at BG....we sold our unit (D-41)  at the end of the season to another Ontario couple.  We have enjoyed spending the last seventeen winters at BG and thought it time for us to stay home and experience good old Canadian winters!!.   We will miss all our friends at BG and also our many friends at Mission hospital and the State Park where we volunteered for many years.  We will also miss visiting Progresso Mx. and all the friends that we made there over the years...

We are having a new home built in our little town of Madoc, Ontario and it will be exciting watching it being built in the next few months.

We will be looking forward to all the summer newsletters.   Don and Ruth King

From Larry and Dawn Schrader (Lot 517 ):  We are back finally.  We were gone longer than we intended.  Our first grandchild was born in Missouri on May 3rd. she is a doll, Julianna Rose.  Then we went up to Michigan for a couple weeks, it sure gets chilly there, had to buy some flannel p.j.'s. Gas was as high as $3.68 a gallon!!!  Stopped to see Dale and Jan Riggins in IL, they are almost as busy there as they are here.  We only stayed one night.  We received a call from our son while we were there to inform us he had the Chicken Pox!!!  The doctor wanted him to stay away from the newborn baby, just in case. Never a dull moment.  He's over the worst of it now, and she hasn't developed any fever, Cindy had Chicken Pox as a child so Julianna shouldn't catch it.  We also stopped in Cape Girardo to see Leo and Becky Casey # 523.  We are going to begin building our front deck....should be done when everyone returns
