Claude Digital Photography Class by Claude Westfall
All classes on digital photography will take place on Fridays at 4:00 PM in the West Hall computer room. Since I-View software will be used all participants should download both the software and the Plugins/AddOns as soon as possible. The software site can be found listed in the BGRCC (www.bgrcc.com) under Top Down Loads. Copies will be available for anyone having problems downloading the software to their computers. All participants are urged to take some pictures and bring them to class to demonstrate several I-View features for editing and manipulating the pictures.

CorinneCorinne Higbee, New User Lesson
The beginners will have Lesson 3 on Exchanging 3-mails. You can locate this  lesson at www.bgrcc.com and click on the Lessons by Corinne Higbee. If you want to you can print the lesson. If you are using a different email program we can discuss any problems you may have at the meeting. We have a number of people using different programs and they will be glad to help.
See you there. Corinne

Setting up a new computer, stuff that comes with your new computer you may not want to use, user accounts, setting up, adding and changing  accounts, security, how all this works together.

JohnJohn Abbott on last week
During the computer club meeting on February 12, 2007  I again found myself presenting too broad a subject with less than normal time to present it.   As I bounced around the web trying to demonstrate some of my favorite sites, I managed to omit quite a bit - I'm blaming the clock and the connection.

The main two sites that I hoped to get you to focus on were Google and Zoho.   You can open free accounts at either by going to their portals front page:  Google front page; or Zoho Servcies front page.   But those are just a drop in the bathtub of the available services.  I've compiled lists by service offered, but to post that list would require a four page newsletter and it might be out of date by now.

Anyway here is (in no particular order) a list of the web 2.0 lists and other helpful product data that I've found on the Web. I encourage you to add other sources in the comments.
  • Ask the eConsultant - I think this is the best list of web 2.0 companies, categorized.
  • Techcrunch product review list - organized by company name instead of service. If you know the name this list works.
  • Virtual Karma "Complete List of Web 2.0 Applications" - No longer complete but there are some good comments.
  • Sacred Cow Dung's Everything Web 2.0 - bad name good site -great list and nicely categorized.
  • Bob Stumple's list A-K and L-Z - HUGE list
  • Map of the Web 2.0 World - not a list but a map of concentration - telling
  • Mashable weblist - Pete Cashmore's mini-blog "featuring concise, opinionated reviews of Web 2.0 companies"
  • categoriz - nicely categorized list, but not much context included.
  • NEOBinaries - well-designed, well categorized and feature rich web 2.0 company/product resource; eats the 2.0 dogfood, with user reviews and ratings, etc.
  • Buzzshout  - Contains heavy use of tag cloud ( list of tags off on the side) Also has reviews and user ratings.
  • ProgrammableWeb - the list for mashups, complete with graphs and stats analysis. This is in many ways what I would love to see done on the web 2.0 lists.
  • The Museum of Modern Betas - I think you'll need Linux and Firefox for this one.
  • Emily Chang's eHub - Another excellent resource and is where I began my own adventure on web 2.0
  • Web 2.0 Innovation Map - A Google Map of 2.0 startups.
  • Web2List - the name says it all!
  • Listable - listed by popularity ranking - which doesn't do much for me.
  • Web2.0Slides - "a self-running slide show of over 1,400 of the best Web2.0 sites."  great tool.
  • Office 2.0 Database - Nice selection.
  • I want to: - a little hard to navigate but it has some great tags
  • Web 2.0 in the Enterprise - wiki by Jeff Nolan's Enterprise list.
I'm sure there are more web 2.0 lists out there which I've forgotten to mention, so please add in the comments and I'll update this post as they come in.   If you aren't confused by now I'll have to try harder.

Monday February 26, 2007, 10:35 AM Special guest speaker Jose Dominguez
If you saw his presentation last year, I am sure you remember it.
He has all new presentation for us this year on Internet Video including video formats, Video on demand, Band width and requirements, Download Sites, Video Conferencing, Web cams, Skype, Channels, Security Cameras and Power Point  Presentations.
Jose is the most knowledgeable person I have met concerning  computers and video. He has operated a company in McAllen that sells video items worldwide. Many items well under $20.00 as well as a few items in the thousands of dollars. For no more than $40.00 he has a cable that will connect your older VCR or Camcorder to a modern computer allowing transfer of Video to your computer. See his site at www.svideo.com.
On his site, see the many how to's on several subjects.
His presentation will be interesting, educational and humorous.
