Report from Val Hi, |

Last week’s program
( Ron’s demonstration reviewed several programs that may be used to make our computer experiences more rewarding. If your computer is not working hard to download advertising while you are on line, it will work much faster on what we want to view. All too often, a part of our computer is taken over by an outside computer. This includes our processor, hard drive, memory and internet connection. The following programs are free to download and free to use by non-commercial users (for home use) SpyBot
available from http://www.safer-networking.org
click on download, click on download here follow instructions
and install it. SpyBot - Search & Destroy searches your hard disk for different
kinds of internet threats - including spy- and adware,
keyloggers and your usage tracks (for example your
browsers page history). Spybot-S&D can also fix
some system problems. Lavasoft Add Aware 6 available from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ . Click on
download under support on the left, select a site to download from, (Possibly
Tucows.com etc.), click download now, follow instructions and install it. Add
Aware 6 will scan your memory, registry, hard,
removable and optical drives for known Datamining,
aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware, Keyloggers, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components. Zone Alarm available
from www.zonelabs.com . Scroll to the
bottom of the page and click on free download. Follow instructions and
install it. Zone Alarm. Do not click on “Zone Alarm PRO” or “Zone
Alarm PRO 30 day free trial” unless you want to pay for it, It's free for
personal and non-profit use (excluding government and educational entities).
Zone Alarm is compatible with Microsoft® Windows® 98/Me/NT/2000 and XP. Shoot The Messenger
(Has nothing to do with MSN Messenger). Originally for inner office messages
to send notes to many computers hooked together on a network. The Windows "Messenger Service"
is being exploited to spray the Internet with unsolicited commercial eMail. The receipt of a single UDP packet can cause a
"Messenger Service" dialog to pop-up on the user's screen. It is
possible for the sender to "spoof" (falsify) the packet's
"Source IP", making these packets impossible to trace back to their
origin. http://grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm
Spyware Blaster can prevent the
installation of any spyware ActiveX controls from a
webpage. It does this while not interfering with "friendly"
ActiveX controls - so your browser can work correctly and you can have peace
of mind! http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
EMPTY TEMP FOLDER helps you manage folders that
contain temporary files, left over by other applications. http://www.downlinx.com/proghtml/230/23073.htm
REG CLEANER With RegCleaner, you can easily remove obsolete registry entries from software that you may have uninstalled ages ago. http://www.komputerswiat.pl/include/download/download_komentarze.asp?idp=1739
Ron also emphasizes how important it is to keep your anti-virus programs up to date. |

Click OK.
2. Right click a disk in the bottom of the window and choose Change Drive Letter
and Paths.
3. Click Change and select an unused letter from the drop-down list and
